29. March 2015
FutureLab Europe will discuss migration and integration policies with Matthias Ruete, Director General of the Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission at the 2015 FutureLab Europe Spring Conference. The event will take place at the European Policy Centre Auditorium in Rue du Trône 14-16, Brussels, on Monday 13 April 2015.
In recent years, migration has been at the heart of the political debate in the EU. Political forces are polarised between those who believe that immigration is Europe’s biggest problem and those who argue that it is an invaluable asset for the continent’s future.
Are EU Member States facing similar challenges when it comes to the integration of third country nationals? What can the EU do to improve the integration of migrants in its societies? Is the European Integration Fund a good instrument to promote integration in EU Member States?
FutureLab Europe took matters in its own hands and investigated the practice of the European Integration Fund (EIF), surveying migrants who benefitted from EIF-funded programmes and interviewing NGOs whose budget is financed by the EIF.
During the conference, FutureLab Europe participants will present their findings and discussed with top-level EU policy makers the impact, achievements and weaknesses of EU-funded integration programmes in several EU Member States, exploring the role of EU migration policies in the integration of migrants.
